Social Ministry
Partner with on of the many organizations or ministries that provide social outreach to our community.
GSLC also gives financial gifts to many different organizations in our surrounding community - this is built into our annual spending plan and is an intentional choice as we celebrate being part of the Somerset County and wider community.
HOME of Somerset County
HOME provides shelter, meals, and support services to families without homes through a cost-efficient and effective community response to family homelessness.
Food Bank
Volunteers
Each year, GSLC volunteers in January, June & December on Saturday mornings with the local Somerset County Food Bank. This is a great opportunities for families and people of all ages to serve our community.
GSLC Food Pantry
Once a month GSLC opens its doors to serve families in our community experiencing food shortage. Our goal is to provide them with food, paper items, and personal care items to help supplement their monthly needs. For Food Pantry Distribution Dates click HERE.
Backpacking

Others
GSLC’s annual backpacking program provides backpacks filled with essential school supplies to local children in need. During June and July we collect donations of school supplies and in August we pack and distribute the backpacks. We believe that every child deserves to have the tools they need to succeed in school.
Weekend Backpack Meals
Many children in our community live with families that struggle to get enough to eat. Weekends can be especially difficult for these children. Good Shepherd packs hundreds of these bags approximately once a quarter! These "Weekend Backpack Meals" are distributed by the Somerset County Food Back to schools in our community.
The Giving Network

GSLC Give Away
Twice a year – spring and fall – GSLC partners with the Giving Network of Somerset County to hold a 2-day Give Away for families in need. Household, baby and children's items, new or lightly used, that have been donated are given away. We have been able to serve about 150 families at each Give Away.
Holiday Food Baskets
GSLC loves to feed people! Each year at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, good is collected, assembled and delivered to several families in need within our community. The baskets provide a full meal for the holidays as well as a week of groceries.
Angel Tree
Each year before Christmas, a tree is placed in the Narthex filled with tags of gifts for children and families who are struggling to celebrate Christmas. Individuals are encouraged to take a tag, purchase the gift and then as a congregation we share these gifts with the families to be able to give their children gifts on Christmas morning!
