Colors for Cancer 5k Run/Walk
“LET’S OUT RUN CANCER - TOGETHER”
CONFIRMATION SERVICE PROJECT AND SUNDAY CHURCH SCHOOL END OF YEAR CELEBRATION
Sunday, May 17th, 2015 – 9am-11am
Join the Confirmands and the Sr. Youth of Good Shepherd for an exciting 5K color run/walk called “Colors for Cancer”. Let’s raise awareness about cancer and cancer prevention—and let’s raise some funds to support the American Cancer Society!
So what’s it going to look like? Information booths, powdered colors, refreshments and an exhila- rating day of exercise. AND—a CELEBRATION at the end of Sunday Church School with fun activities for kids of all ages, like face painting, balloon animals, ribbons and games!
Who’s Invited? YOU! And all your friends, family, neighbors, your favorite grocery clerk—whoever you think might enjoy a morning of fun and education.
Well, how’s it gonna work? You might show up on the 17th and walk/run 1, 2, or maybe even 3 miles in a loop around the church being decorated with colors as you pass GSLC— or you might partici- pate in learning at the information booths, receiving colored ribbons as you go. Maybe your family or group of friends will walk or run together in honor or memory of a loved one. Maybe you’ll meet some new friends while you’re walking or visiting the different information booths. Maybe parents and kids will walk together—it’s up to you! And you know if you’re a kid, you’re going to definitely be getting your face painted—who doesn’t love that?!
It has to cost something though ... Nope! Participants will be encouraged to get sponsorships from friends, family or neighbors for their walk/run and a free will offering will be collected, but there is no official fee!
Am I going to get messy? Probably. If you participate in the walk/run, you will be "colorful" by the end of the morning. We will provide you with a t-shirt, but would encourage you to wear old clothes or sneakers if you have them!
I’m a cancer survivor! Thanks be to God! And can we get your help? We’d love to have cancer survivors at the information booths to talk about their experience and proper prevention—and we’d love to have you help us color our walkers/runners!
Are you willing to help? We need you! This is a huge project but one we’re very excited about. Please check out the sign-up sheets on the kiosk and consider getting involved!
